Reimagining a Buffalo Landmark - Evolution of Treatment

Clip | 4m 24s | Video has closed captioning.

Discover Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride and his moral model of mental illness treatment. His belief that physical environment affects mental health had a significant impact on the design of the Richardson Olmsted Campus. The first patients were admitted in 1880. From 1900 to 1945, an increase in patients led to additional buildings and structures. From 1974 to 2006, the campus is largely abandoned.
