Like you just show up and toss your pen on any old ballot.
But I'm here to set that straight, because I'm Cory and this is "Compact Civics."
(upbeat music) First, you have to register.
It's a pretty rigid process, but it's not hard to do.
In New York State.
you can do it at any DMV, by mail or online, but you can't just register on Election Day, you have to do it well in advance.
To be eligible to vote in all US elections, you must be a US citizen, meet your state's residency requirements and be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
For the record, non-citizens and permanent legal residents cannot vote.
To ensure you can vote, confirm your eligibility, register by your state's deadline, and understand any rule that may effect your voting rights.
Voting is the easiest way to participate in democracy and influence governance, but remember, it comes with strict legal guidelines.
