The Tragically Hip's last performance as a five-piece band.
In 2015, The Tragically Hip's lead singer, Gord Downie, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Having just finished their latest record, it seemed only appropriate to take it out on tour, a tour that felt like a farewell. The 15-show run culminated in a National Celebration on August 20, 2016, at the K-Rock Centre in the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

We all appreciate it.
We started here, as you know, and opened up to 13 people.
And our next show, we had 28.
And then the next Kingston show after that, we had six.
This is my favorite gag to do on this trip.
We’ve played here a thousand times, played all the rooms.
Really glad about being here in Kingston.
We could play the university.
And we could play for the bikers.
And our idea was just that everybody’s invited, everybody’s involved, and tried to write that way and tried to think that way.
Um, we went through a period there where we had to work very hard to get the girls to come.
Uh, because the guys were just scrapping and being really weird.
And, uh, somehow we -- We got the girls to come back.
[ Cheers and applause ] And thank you.
Whoever did that, whoever were the cause of that one.
Um, on behalf of the boys and the men and women of our crew, um, thank you for a great tour and a great show.
[ Cheers and applause ] Really enjoyed the hell out of it.
We’re going to go into the back, and we’re going to act like we’ve left, and you’re going to cheer, and we’re going to come out and play.
[ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause ] See, I probably shouldn’t have said that we go away and wait for applause, and then we come back and play because you didn’t really even have to do anything.
Uh, and I could feel that almost.
A certain... Yeah, like you weren’t doing that.
You weren’t doing it quite like that.
But this is cool.
I think they want another song, Paul.
