Lew Wallace (1827-1905) is one of the most significant Hoosiers in Indiana history.
Lew Wallace led a storied life: He fought in the Civil War as the youngest major general in the Union Army; wrote Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, one of the best-selling novels of all time; as a lawyer, tried two of the most infamous acts of the Civil War; served as governor of the New Mexico territory, where he interacted with Billy the Kid; and served as minister to the Ottoman Empire.
